Jennifer Lawrence's performance as Katniss Everdeen in this chapter of the franchise was just as strong as the others, her acting is to be highly commended and in this movie more so than the others it was highly focused on her life after the games, coming to terms with being the mockingjay and the face of the rebellion. Jennifer even gives singing a try in this instalment and lets just say she gave it her best shot. Josh Hutcherson who portrays Peeta Mellark has a slightly smaller role in this film but still manages to capture the audience with every second that he is on film, the transformation he makes from his first scene in the movie to the last is sensational. Liam Hemsworth has a much larger role in this instalment and formidably cemented his place in hollywood with his portrayal of Gale Hawthorne. The love triangle between Gale-Katniss-Peeta is magnified as we all know with any successful hollywood franchise there needs to be a good love triangle, this was one of the only things that skewed away from the authenticity of the books.
The cinematography and camera work was very similar to that of the first movie directed by XX, some scenes were shot with a point of view shot and was very shaky at times. Many have asked was it necessary to split the film into two parts, my opinion? No it was not. The movie ran for just over 2 hours and there was a lot of filler and material in there that was not necessary. The final book could easily have been able to be told effectively in a 2 and a half- 3 hour movie. As expected the movie finished on a cliffhanger making the anticipation for the final chapter even greater. Overall I would rate the movie 4 stars out of 5, definitely a must see for any hunger games fan. Mockingjay comes out nationwide on November 20th, 2014.
Until next time sexy people,
